Take a 2 bedroom, original 1980’s Auckland townhouse, untouched since it was built, and turn it into a modern living space – in just 10 weeks.
The story
The most significant challenge with this project was the time constraint. The owners wanted a full renovation in 10 weeks, and Birds in Paradise rose to the challenge!
During consultation, the owners expressed a desire to open up their home, creating more light and flow through the living areas. To achieve this effect, walls were removed to create open-plan kitchen, dining and living spaces. This immediately created a feeling of space and created much better flow through all the rooms. The project also required a new bathroom, toilet and kitchen, which were all out of date and impractical for modern living.
We updated each room with new paint, wallpaper, carpet and vinyl as well as replacing all the window hardware. The owners wished to keep the original wooden doors, which we re-sanded and refinished, in keeping with the original aesthetic of the house.
To open up the outdoor living space, we undertook a complete renovation of the original courtyard, building an outdoor room in the style of a covered-in gazebo. This provided all-important indoor outdoor flow and created a light filled space, perfect for modern, inner city living.
The outcome
Birds in Paradise successfully renovated this home on-time and under budget, and, more importantly, we exceeded the owners’ expectations. We’re particularly proud of this project as there was a lot to get done in a short amount of time – and we achieved it. We gave this house not only a new injection of life – we significantly increased its value, thus maximising our client’s investment.
